Final preparations before opening of the new training centre in Nigeria
In Spring of 2020, the "Nachwuchsstiftung Maschinenbau", a foundation supported by the VDMA e.V., will open the new premises of the training centre in Obajana, Nigeria, together with its Nigerian partner "Dangote Foundation". The final preparations are in full swing.

In spring 2020, the VDMA e.V. sponsored foundation "Nachwuchsstiftung Maschinenbau" will open the new premises of the training centre in Obajana, Nigeria, together with the Nigerian cooperation partner "Dangote Foundation". This foundation is strongly committed to the development of Nigeria and was founded by Aliko Dangote, whose Dangote Group is one of the largest companies in the country. The VDMA has thus found a partner who is well acquainted with Nigeria's industry and, in particular, with the requirements for skilled workers.

Within the framework of the initiative "Skilled workers for Africa", the Nachwuchsstiftung Maschinenbau will provide access to dual training in Nigeria. The aim of this is to enable an increased transfer of know-how in dealing with German machinery and equipment. At the same time, the initiative wants to support German companies in expanding their business activities on the Nigerian market by making trained specialists available locally in the future.

At the training center in Obajana, seven technical training courses in various areas of mechanical and plant engineering are offered in addition to the dual vocational training course of "mechatronics engineer". Together with experts from PTS (Professional Training Solutions), the corresponding curricula and course materials were developed.

Classrooms are also being equipped for theoretical and practical instruction as part of the initiative. Currently, the construction measures are in their final stages before the portals for student registration will be opened in spring 2020.

Both the vocational training and the advanced training courses are open to all interest groups and are not directly linked to membership within a company. Practical training is provided in the workshops available at the training centre and supported by internships. A large number of German companies have sponsored the appropriate equipment for the training workshops, thus making a major contribution to making practical training possible. The opening of the training centre in spring 2020 will be accompanied by representatives of the VDMA team "Africa Projects".

Professional Training Solutions in Zambia
The expertise of Professional Training Solutions in Africa is becoming more known amongst international firms looking to establish training projects in their African market. We were very pleased when ABB, a leader in power and automation technologies, approached us to support them in their project with the University of Zambia. The UNZA- ABB partnership includes the modernisation of one out of two training substations with state-of-the –art equipment provided by ABB at the University grounds. In order to align the university’s training with the new modern equipment, ABB has requested the PTS support. Our Managing Partner, Miss Annette Bauer, spent last week in Lusaka with Mr. Peter Luens from ABB, collecting the necessary input for the curricula modernisation, meeting stakeholders and getting a feel for the Zambian market. We are looking forward to being part of such a beneficial project and the continuing fruitful relationship with our new client ABB.
